The Waterbar by Thought in Motion is a cafe in Montclair where the focus isn’t on coffee. Jaye Regincos founded the cafe with four other owners using crystal-infused water as a beverage base, with a goal of blending intention into every cup.

Mindful Drinking

Regincos’ journey into creating Thought in Motion began long before the cafe opened. As a private “thought coach” for 14 years, Regincos guides clients to become more aware of their thoughts, choices and actions. This philosophy serves as the core concept of the cafe, where staff create every beverage using crystal-infused water to enhance the quality and energy of the beverages.

“We ask customers to think of something they want to evoke in their life,” Regincos explained. “It’s about using intentions. You can create who you are by what you think, feel, say and do. We tell our clients to charge their foods and drinks before they eat them and put them through the body.”

Water is the centerpiece of the cafe. Different carbon filters, such as microfilters and UV, purify the water and remove unwelcome contaminants. The water goes through a six-figure filtration system that is crystal-charged. The system cleanses the water with minerals and replenishes it with volcanic and natural rocks.

“Our water is different; it has shungite quartz, rose quartz, clear quartz, and a really cool filter that sets it apart,” Regincos said, adding that the process also charges the water with the highest intentions and that the frequency and vibration around it allow staff to infuse it with positive words.

“Intentions are very important, so when you [the customer] are at the front, we ask you to think of something you want,” Regincos explained. Customers are provided with a list, but they can also choose a feeling that they want to evoke in their life. Then, they blow the energy onto their drink.

Water That Tastes Different

For many customers, the difference is palpable. Whether sipping on a cappuccino or indulging in one of the cafe’s chakra elixirs, a flight of seven drinks inspired by the body’s energy centers, they can immediately taste the difference.

“The charcoal lemonade, you can actually taste the ingredients, the medicinal properties actually, and you can see it when you go to the bathroom,” said Ricardo Vincent, a regular customer, referring to the Activated Charcoal Lemonade, one of the cafe’s signature elixirs.

It’s not just the flavor that sets Thought in Motion apart. For Vincent, the water itself plays a significant role in enhancing the cafe’s offerings, “The water is the right consistency. Drinking regular bottled water makes you thirsty, but the water here quenches your thirst,” Vincent added.

He wasn’t the only one noticing the benefits. A frequent customer mentioned how the water keeps them coming back. “The water is clean and so pure I tell everyone to come here,” the customer explained as she carried two-gallon jugs of the water to carry home. Another customer was a fan of the cafe’s vibe: “Cute, very different.”

Sandy Klein, one of the cafe’s owners and thought coaches, said, “There is so much love here, beautiful people.”

For Regincos, the cafe’s mission is to go beyond serving drinks.

“I think the coffee culture is bigger than us, but we would like to contribute by having filtered water, having it be yummy, and giving options. I think the energy in the water makes a difference,” she said.

In keeping with its mission to promote wellness and mindful living, Thought in Motion has started selling its coffee brand, Follow The White Rabbit, both in-store and online. The brand aims to encourage mindfulness.

“We’re hoping we can highlight good people in the world,” Regincos shared.

  1. From their own website:

“Water Structure Alteration: Fact or Fiction?
Another claim is that crystals can alter the molecular structure of water, enhancing its “energy” and making it more beneficial for consumption.

This idea is rooted in the work of Masaru Emoto, a Japanese researcher who claimed that water molecules change structure based on exposure to different energies, including those from crystals.

While Emoto’s work is often cited in holistic circles, it has been met with significant skepticism from the scientific community due to a lack of reproducible evidence.

As it stands, there is no widely accepted scientific proof that crystals can alter the molecular structure of water in a way that would impact health.

Scientific Studies: What Does the Research Say?
To date, there is a noticeable absence of rigorous scientific studies supporting the health benefits of crystal-infused water.

While many testimonials and anecdotal evidence exist, the scientific community has yet to conduct large-scale studies to validate these claims.

Most experts in chemistry and medicine remain cautious, noting that any perceived benefits are likely due to the placebo effect rather than any measurable impact of the crystals themselves.

    Potential Benefits and Claims
Despite the lack of scientific backing, crystal-infused water is surrounded by many claims that attract individuals seeking alternative health solutions.

Physical Benefits: Enhanced Hydration and Detoxification?
Proponents of crystal-infused water often claim it enhances hydration, detoxifies the body, and provides essential minerals.

While water is undeniably essential for hydration and detoxification, the role of crystals in enhancing these processes remains unproven.

The placebo effect, where the belief in the efficacy of practice leads to perceived improvements, might explain why some people feel better after drinking crystal-infused water.

Mental and Emotional Benefits: Crystal Healing and Energy Alignment
Crystals have long been used in various healing traditions to balance energy, reduce stress, and promote emotional well-being.

Crystal-infused water is believed to carry these benefits, aiding in emotional balance, mental clarity, and energy enhancement.

For example, rose quartz-infused water is said to open the heart chakra, promoting love and emotional healing.

While these claims are deeply rooted in spiritual practices, they lack empirical evidence and are often considered subjective.”
