Essex County
Essex County government includes the County Executive, who administers county-related governance, and nine elected commissioners, who focus on legislation such as approving budgets, passing resolutions and ordinances, and approving county contracts.

The nine-member Essex Board of County Commissioners serves as administrative advisor and a check to the Essex County Executive’s office. The Commissioners approve the operating and capital budgets sent from the County Executive’s office, pass ordinances and celebrate the community with myriad resolutions.
