Robin Schlager

Montclair, NJ – The Montclair Planning Board has a vacancy. Second Ward Councilor Robin Schlager is stepping down.

“The council appoints a member to be a liaison to the Planning Board. I have had that seat now for over four years. It’s time for one of my colleagues to have a chance to serve on that board,” said Schlager regarding her decision to resign. “I have found it to be a very rewarding and a great learning experience. I got a first hand look at the dedicated and hard working volunteers who serve on it, especially Chair John Wynn.”

Schlager said that as far as she knows, the Council has not appointed a replacement yet, but she believes that will happen at their next meeting.

During Schlager’s time serving on the Planning Board she was able to weigh in on both the current and the previous plans proposed for Lackawanna Plaza.

Schlager and fellow Montclair Planning Board members made their final recommendations to the Lackawanna Plaza redevelopment plan in a resolution to the Council adopted on January 23.

  1. Can you blame her? All these lawsuits, they took away her healthcare, they don’t pay her anything… why would anyone want to do any of these jobs. Our system needs to change.

  2. Previous comment is very charitable, but the reality is that Robin Schlager’s contributions as Councilor are such she should be paying money to residents, not the other way around. What has she done that’s worth mentioning? Letting Edgemont Bridge sit broken for a year? Voting yes on the crappy Glen Ridge fire agreement? Asking the most basic questions at council meetings after sitting on that dais for 12 years? Frankly, this is NOT what I expect from my council person.

Council members receive a $10K stipend and used to receive health benefits. Do you know the cost of a family plan? I looked into it – close to $40K. So each Council member who illegally took benefits (as a family plan) cost us taxpayers about $50K per year. For what? For providing us (and surrounding area) with bi-weekly entertainment instead of effective governance? Thanks, but no thanks.

Going back to Schlager, she is done. I doubt she will run since, without health benefits, the incentive is gone. Plus, (interim?) Town Attorney Burr punched her a first class-ticket to the Land of Unelectables anyway.
