If you are home safe indoors, here’s what it looks like out there in Montclair:

Samba Montclair has some choice words for Hurricane Sandy.

Town trucks clearing away leaves.
New trees on South Park tethered and hoping for the best.
Some parts of Park St already have a few inches of water — if you stand in one of the huge pot holes all over Park St.
TLC is bracing for Sandy on the outside, but offering mani/pedis inside.

Urban Outfitters is open – for now.
Tape, tape…
and more tape…
Wind is kicking up — how long before these pumpkins start rolling.
So warm and cozy in Plum on Park, you’d never know a Frankenstorm was coming.

  1. Thank goodness that Nails place is open. We so need them to be there for us through rain, snow, and dark of night. And, YOU CAN PARK FREE AT MUNICIPAL LOTS DURING THE HURRICANE! Of course the minute the wind drops below hurricane force you will be towed (to the Holland Tunnel Water Park).

  2. I am down at TLC nails now. The parking is a dream and it is so nice and quiet. If this is my last day on earth I would like to go out in style!

  3. Holly, I doubt you are capable of doing anything withouth style… 🙂

So, what little hiddenbeauty of a Chardonnay are they pouring at TLC today? I am off to a joint called 3 Pickles for lunch in an hour or so. They have good hot pastrami, Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray or Cream Soda, or any number of different beers. Seriously, good luck in the next couple of days. This looks very ugly.

  4. Holly, you’d better get those toes back home and stuff them into a pair of boots. The winds are kicking up.

    She’s almost home!

  5. I was actually shaking while I was having my nails done as I watched stuff fly down So. Park. A smart person would have called it a day, I never claimed to be a smart person.

The drive home was scary and two of my fence sections have flown off.

One of the trees on So. Park have already blown over. Any bets on how many will be left after Sandy?

  6. My 150 year old maple that lost 8 big limbs last year just had two more big ones snap off. I’m crying. I just saw a house land and there are some curled up feet under it…..

  7. I wonder where the squirrels and strays go. There has been a tabby cat running through my yard recently when I drive in to my parking lot. I have to think it found a nice, safe place under my deck or maybe in someone’s basement. 🙁

Ok, just for the squirrels, I’ll go there. Flying Squirrels. There, I said it. 🙁

  8. Tree snapped in half. Large branch blocking Oakcroft near Valley Road. Hope someone at DPW can get to that after dangerous winds pass. Increasing gusts now. Hope everyone stays safe.

  9. After last year’s storm, there was a long period where we didn’t see squirrels. I think a lot of them died. I remember seeing two baby squirrels on the ground at Edgemont shortly after the storm. V sad.

  10. jerseygurl – so sorry to hear about your maple.

The last two years have been hard on the big trees like maples and oaks. In developed neighborhoods, they need trimming every 5-7 years just to stay healthy and remove dead or weak limbs, etc.
