RePlant Montclair is looking to make Montclair green again by replanting trees that were destroyed during the snowstorm that devastated the area this past October.

The blizzard that took New Jersey by surprise wreaked havoc on trees because the heavy, wet snow weighed down branches still covered in leaves.

The organization needs to raise $5,000 to plant 50 trees with the help of Upper Mountain Landscaping, which is providing the trees at wholesale prices.

RePlant hopes to “Give the trees a voice” through town-wide fundraising initiatives that educate residents on both the aesthetic beauty and environmental necessity of replenishing trees.

The effort is being spearheaded by a group of volunteers, including Barry Jackson, Imke Oster (chair of the Montclair Environmental Commission), Scott Kevelson (friends of Anderson Park), Rachel Weber, Sarah Vogel, Nicole Robinson and Sarah O’Leary.

  1. Immediate thought is why replant ? 50 trees one way or the other don’t change the character of the town but from someone who was without power for almost a week, not replanting means there are 50 fewer potential causes of power loss, street blockage, car damage, etc., during future storms.

  2. Scott Kevelson has done and continues to do an amazing job with Anderson Park. The bi-annual park clean-ups are always fun and most of the parks neighbors & kids come out to help.

Anderson Park has had many new trees planted according to the “original plans” and Rose Garden in th South Eastern portion of the park is wonderful in bloom.

Also, after many many many years of suggesting the Joe D and his Parks Dept, the County has finally installed Recycling Containers. Though I had to pick it up on Sunday morning, most likely some kids tipped it over.

I would really like to see a detailed plan, like the one that was used for plantings at Anderson. This way people understand where the money is going.
