Chef Leia Gaccione, a “Top Chef” alum and the owner of South + Pine American Eatery in Morristown, is bringing her culinary talents to Montclair. She will open The Saint Clair at 32 Church Street in the former Scala del Nonna, which we reported was closing in February.

The Saint Clair is scheduled to open in June.

If you’ve eaten at South + Pine, you know that Gaccione is really good at turning seasonal, locally sourced ingredients into something special. Expect that same passion and creativity at The Saint Clair, which is slated to open in June.

Though Gaccione officially moved to Montclair two years ago, her culinary journey began here. She honed her skills at local restaurants and always dreamed of opening a restaurant in town.

“I have been dreaming of this moment my whole life,” Gaccione said. “I started my career in this city and have always been enamored by it. I moved here two years ago, and I think that was the first step of the manifestation. Montclair has such a great community. There are so many great restaurants and businesses. I love the focus on the arts and music. It’s just magical!”

At 32 Church Street, Gaccione will transform the space with inspiration drawn from its ceilings and architectural details. Her commitment to sustainable and seasonal ingredients will remain central to The Saint Clair’s menu. The restaurant will be BYO, but guests can look forward to a thoughtfully curated mocktail menu and a coffee bar.

Before the grand opening, Gaccione is hosting a series of pop-up dinners at Walnut Street Kitchen to preview the menu. The first is scheduled for April 29, with additional dates in May. To get an early taste, reserve your spot by calling 973-746-0789.

And that’s not the only exciting news in the local dining scene.
