Spring has arrived in New Jersey—not with a bang, but with a passive-aggressive nudge, like a neighbor “just checking” if you’re still using that snow shovel. Spring is the time to prep your home for summer because nothing says “I’m ready for barbecues and beach trips” like a house that doesn’t look like it’s auditioning for “Hoarders: Winter Edition.” Whether you’re a DIY warrior or someone who thinks a hammer is just a really loud drumstick, this guide will help make your home the envy of the block—or at least not the embarrassment of it.

TruBlue sat down with local realtor Julia Segal, Sales Manager of Compass in Montclair and came up with a list of chores to tackle.

Spring-ready Home Tips—(procrastination is so last season)

Clear the Gutters (Hire a Pro!) – Your gutters are so full of winter debris that they’re basically a bird condo with a “no vacancy” sign. Hire a professional to climb up there—because if you fall off a ladder, the only thing you’ll be barbecuing is your dignity. Safety first!

Blast Away Winter Grime – Power wash your siding, deck, and patio until they gleam like an actor’s smile at the Oscars. Grab one of those machines and pretend you’re in a sci-fi movie—pew pew!—but aim away from the windows unless you want an indoor pool.

Window & Door Check-Up – Test your seals and screens—let the breeze in, keep the bugs out, because nothing ruins a barbecue like a mosquito swarm doing the conga line through your potato salad. Caulk them up, or you’ll be hosting the insect equivalent of Coachella.

HVAC Refresh – Swap that filter—it’s dirtier than a stand-up comic’s notebook—and schedule a tune-up. You’ll need air conditioning when summer humidity turns your living room into a sauna – and not the relaxing kind.

Garden Glow-Up – Clear out the winter mess—yes, those twigs are judging you. Plant some petunias or thyme for your BBQ sauce, and add a lawn chair that screams, “I peaked in 1995.” It’s your summer throne now!

Paint Inside & Out – Slap a fresh coat on a wall—something bold, like “I just won the lottery” yellow—or paint your front door a color that says “I’m fun, but I still pay taxes.” It’s cheaper than therapy and twice as satisfying.

Deck & Patio Furniture Revival – Scrub your outdoor stuff. Rinse it off, and let the sun dry it.

Spring Cleaning Indoors – Open the windows—fresh air is still a thing. Dust like you’re auditioning for a cleaning infomercial, and mop until the floor’s so shiny you can see your existential crisis in it. Summer deserves a clean slate, people!

Shake Out Rugs – Drag those rugs outside and shake them like you’re trying to wake a teenager on a Saturday. The sun’s your free vacuum, use it!

Swap Linens – Ditch the heavy blankets for sheets so light they could float away—white, or maybe a blue that says “I’m calm, but I could snap.” Your bed’s now a summer nap trap!

Yard Spruce-Up – Trim bushes before they turn your yard into a maze only a Minotaur could love, clear dead branches, and fluff flower beds. Add a bird feeder or a wind chime that sounds like a hippie doing interpretive dance—nature’s soundtrack!

Light the Way – Swap porch bulbs or string up lights. Solar ones are the lazy genius move—because who has time to wire stuff when there’s barbecue to eat?

“Think of spring as the dress rehearsal for a blockbuster summer! Dive into these tasks now. Amp up that curb appeal! Clear those gutters, power wash away winter’s grime, plant that garden, and give your home the facelift, or at least fresh coat of paint, it deserves. Whether you are entertaining this spring and summer or prepping your home to sell, you won’t regret it!” said Julia Segal, Sales Manager, Compass of Montclair.

Liz Rabban, Owner of TruBlue of Morristown and Montclair, adds: “I love helping people get their homes summer-ready—it’s all about making things simple and fresh so you can entertain, enjoy a cold one at the barbecue, or a day at the beach without a care. There are so few beautiful spring and summer weekends – don’t spend them working on your house; let us do it for you!”

There you have it, folks—your home’s now ready to face summer like a champ, or at least fake it ‘til September. Need backup? Call TruBlue of Morristown and Montclair at 973-488-7200 or visit trublueally.com. They’ll swoop in faster than you can say “meanwhile” and get it done.
