The Montclair BOE and interim superintendent need to finalize the 2025-2026 school calendar ASAP.
No one wants to end school on June 30th. We will never appease everyone so let’s make a thoughtful decision about the school year end date. It’s simply too hot to be in old buildings with inadequate A/C in late June. And children attending summer school need a break, as do their teachers.
If we move elections out of the schools and reduce religious holidays we can get out earlier in June. I would also suggest giving students and teachers a few floating holidays for religious observances thus making these excused absences. I know some people won’t like this plan. Can we just give it a whirl? We can always revisit it and tweak it if it doesn’t work.
