Where do you live?

When did you move there?
My family and I moved to Montclair in late 2021 after three years in Weehawken, and we were in Greenwich Village before that!
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in a small town outside of San Antonio, TX, and after college in Austin, I moved to NYC (with a dream and without a job) in 2012.
How do you make a living? OR What is your everyday passion?
Until last fall, my entire career was spent in video production. I worked for 11.5 years at Condé Nast, heading up the editorial video post-production department. I decided I was ready for a drastic pivot, and at the beginning of March, I launched a new small business, Middle Child Kids Consignment. I hope one day in the not-too-distant future to have a brick-and-mortar storefront, but am starting by selling online first to make sure there is enough interest in town! I love kids’ clothes and want to help parents snag cute and high-quality clothes secondhand. Kids wear sizes for such a brief period of time—I want to provide an alternative shopping option to the community so we’re buying fewer new things where possible. Coffee, tea, or …?
Cold brew with a splash of milk, year round, no matter the temperature outside.
What’s your idea of a perfect weekend day?
I spend all week working from home, so on the weekend I want to get OUT. I love hitting Local for an early-morning coffee and pastry, probably another spot like Paper Plane for a second, late-morning coffee, carting my daughter around to her activities, getting some fresh air at a playground with her and my husband, and ideally getting an early dinner somewhere that can serve us cocktails (we really like The Rabbit Hole at Blue Steel Pizza Company in Bloomfield). And in the summer, hitting Applegate Farm for some ice cream after dinner.
What’s your favorite local restaurant?
There are too many to pick from! If I had to choose, I love Bluestone Coffee or Minia’s for breakfast, Millburn Deli for lunch, and La Rocca for dinner.
What’s on your nightstand?
Always two books—one personal (“Good Material”), one for the neighborhood book club (“The Fraud”)—lip balm, and a pile of hair ties.
What are you listening to?
Right now, a lot of podcasts to entertain me while I work. Las Culturistas, The Prestige TV Podcast, Culture Study, Switched on Pop, and more. Anything that’s entertaining + educational (and long!).
What are your current indulgences?
I have been mowing through our Trefoils from my Girl Scout niece. They’re perfect with an afternoon tea when I hit a 3-4 PM slump.
What talent would you most like to have?
I tell myself I’m wonderful as I am, however, I would sell a kidney to be able to sing AT ALL.
What’s the worst-kept (or best-kept!) secret about your town?
I don’t think there are any unturned stones in Montclair! I will say that it’s shocking that more people in town don’t know about Erie Coffeeshop & Bakery in Rutherford—it’s worth the short drive! Go there!
What do you hope they say about you at your funeral?
I hope I’m remembered as wonderfully funny and fiercely loving. I like to think the latter is indisputable, but acknowledge that the former is subjective…
